Intelligent Kiosk for Hong Kong Smart ID

The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administration Region (HKSAR) is issuing smart identity (ID) card to replace the existing laminated ID cards from August 2003 onwards. Of normal credit card's size, the new smart ID with a computer chip which can store and process data. The smart ID card will store personal information and photograph, template of thumbprints and minimum but essential data pertaining to non-immigration, value-added applications.

It is the honor of AMCL to be the original design manufacturer of the intelligent kiosks customized for SMARTICS. Now located in all smart card replacement centres, the kiosks allow users to perform self-service applications. Value-added applications using the smart ID cards include serving as a driving license, library card, e-certificate and on-line Government services at self-service kiosks without the need to attend Government offices in person. More applications can be adopted with this versatile facility.

To meet the requirements of SMARTICS, AMCL developed a Smart Card Reader tailor-made to read the Hong Kong Smart ID cards with high level of security.









Multimedia Cyber Bus-Stop - KMB


AMCL marked another breakthrough in March 2003 following several months of endeavour for the completion of Cyber Bus Stops (CBS) which now situate at the Star Ferry, Canton Road in Tsim Sha Tsui and Rumsey Street in Central. The Tourist Cyber Bus Stop brings convenience to tourists travelling in Hong Kong. This Cyber Bus Stop went through very stringent tests for vandal-proof, waterproof, excellent ventilation with air conditioning for outdoor environment of strong sunlight, raining as well as vandalism. By pressing the touch-screen LCD panel, tourists can access information they need, including detailed information on the spots of interests served by passing bus routes, and an introduction on major tourist areas.

Bus stop is no longer a static information pole on the street. Next time when you are waiting for a bus, look out if you are standing next to the Cyber Bus Stop. If so, touch the screen and feel the service yourself.









The 1st Motorized Information Kiosk - Hong Kong Science Park

As a pioneer in research and development in multimedia intelligent terminal, AMCL keeps on to launch new and improved version to maintain its leading market position.

One of the recent inventions is the kiosk with adjustable height to fit the height requirement of both normal adult and wheelchair-enabled people.

Simply by pressing a button, the touch screen display unit will move from the low position to the top position automatically or vice versa. It serves and provides much convenience to all walks of live with a simple-to-use device. This latest model is the first of its kind in the world and is now on service in HKSTP at Pak Shek Kok, Tai Po. HKSTP took the lead to deploy the world 1st motorized information kiosk. Another model of cyber slim shape was also made for matching the high-tech image of HKSTP.











Virtual Office - Customs & Excise Department

Merits of self-service kiosk have been widely recognized with the increasing use of information terminals by commercial firms as well as government departments, for public use or internal communication purpose.

The specially designed kiosk for Customs and Excise Department, HKSAR serves as an internal communication terminal for staff. The features such as comfortable hand-rest keyboard, writing pad & track ball allow staff to perform desktop works while on the move within office or during customs duty.

This is a well-thought idea to improve work efficiency. Supplemented with a web-based documentation and reporting system, it turns to create a paperless virtual office environment for internal staff.







HK's 1st Self-service Movie Ticketing Kiosk - Broadway Circuit

Broadway cinema added MaxPhone in its outlets throughout the territory, offering customers there the ability to select seating, reserve tickets, purchase tickets, settle payment and collect tickets, all-in-one go - the first kind of such service available in HK. Going to see movie will be more convenience than before in Broadway circuit.

Time proved the idea of self-service ticketing kiosk not only improve operations but also change consumer behavior. Customers are becoming more accustomed to purchasing movie tickets from the kiosk themselves rather than queuing up at the counter. AMCL offers tailor-made model kiosk to fit for the particular environment of cinema foyer. Remote monitoring system was incorporated for security purpose.







Debut of MaxPhone at HK International Airport

On December 1, 2000, units of MaxPhone were installed in the Hong Kong International Airport near gate 63 and gate 66. Services include making local phone calls, IDD calls, e-mail, e-photo, e-postcard, video mail and an information directory.

Positive feedback was received from users according to a customer survey. They claimed that the functions of MaxPhone were very innovative, interesting, funny and user-friendly.

With the success in the airport, PCCW further deployed MaxPhone in their service centre offering full services to their customers.













e-Helper at HKUST

Campus Service office, HKUST, taking charge of the Information Centre has been exploring ways to serve visitors outside office hours. The Information Centre, just located at the entrance of the University, is the first contact point where outsiders could reach for enquiries and assistance.

MaxPhone can provide a 24/7 service guide on information, events and location map to the visitors, saving lots of manpower while rendering better services. MaxPhone was installed at a semi-outdoor location and needs to withstand a relatively humid environment in the area of Sai Kung.

Our client was content with the stable and reliable performance of MaxPhone.









An Ideal Advertising & Promotion Vehicle - PCCW & Manulife

The attractive outlook and flexible software render MaxPhone as an ideal advertising promotion terminal for roadshows or exhibitions. For example, PCCW Limited promoted its revamped Yellow Page on the web during roadshows.

MaxPhone offers a hassle-free solution for company's outdoor promotion activities. Manulife let her agents touch the interactive agency website in the launch event by means of MaxPhone.









LCSD uses kiosk as Internet Terminal

Under the advocation of Electronic Services Delivery concept, Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) has been exploring the possibility of using self-service kiosk to provide ticketing services. AMCL was invited to undergo a two-month weather-resistant test and MaxPhone was successfully proved to be acceptable in good performance.

LCSD then decided to install MaxPhone to offer customers self-service booking facilities. Users will get a confirmation receipt from the kiosk after transaction.
